Welcome In the Name of the Father, The Son, And the Holy Ghost
The Ground Beneath Your Feet Is Holy Ground
Let Us Enter Into The Holy of Holies Through His Words.
“The Last Supper”
Mark 14:12-31 NASB
12 On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was being sacrificed, His disciples said to Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare for You to eat the Passover?” 13 And He sent two of His disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him; 14 and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is My guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 15 And he himself will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; prepare for us there.” 16 The disciples went out and came to the city, and found it just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.
17 When it was evening He came with the twelve. 18 As they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me--one who is eating with Me.” 19 They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, “Surely not I?” 20 And He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, one who dips with Me in the bowl. 21 For the Son of Man is to go just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.”
22 While they were eating, He took some bread, and after a blessing He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is My body.” 23 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it.24 And He said to them, “This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly I say to you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
26 After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
27 And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, because it is written, ‘I WILL STRIKE DOWN THE SHEPHERD, AND THE SHEEP SHALL BE SCATTERED.’ 28 But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” 29 But Peter said to Him, “Even though all may fall away, yet I will not.” 30 And Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you, that this very night, before a rooster crows twice, you yourself will deny Me three times.” 31 But Peter kept saying insistently, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” And they all were saying the same thing also.
The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world v. 12.
Here at the last supper the Lord Jesus is staring down the end of His earthly ministry. He’s not done being the king we need. Not by a long shot. He doesn’t have any quit in Him. He’s just getting started with saving the world. He is heading to the cross for the atonement of our sins. But His preaching ministry is coming to a close, He’ll continue the work of spreading good news through His Church: through us.
We too deal with the changing of seasons. One chapter of life closes, another opens. All too often we receive change with fear. Longing for nostalgia sets in and becomes our default. We’re trapped in the great was or never was. How do we receive change with faithfulness? The only way to receive change in a courageous and faithful fashion is to receive the strength and courage needed from the hands of the Lord. He meets us in the hinterlands with an endless supply of Himself.
If you remember, the Lord's ministry all started with John the Baptist seeing Him from afar and telling his disciples: “Behold, the Lamb of God!”
John 1:35-36 NASB
35 Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
One of those disciples was Andrew, who brought His brother Peter to Jesus. And so it goes, disciple after disciple is called to follow Jesus and become fishers of men. Why? Why did they leave everything to follow the carpenter from Nazareth?
He’s the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! That’s the why of it.
And now they’re together, one last time, celebrating the Passover, with Jesus: the final sacrificial lamb. This is who Jesus is. This was why He came to earth, born of a woman, God wrapped up in flesh and blood to be slain as our Passover lamb.
Exodus 12:12-13 NASB
12 For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments--I am the LORD. 13 The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
So it is with your soul.
Jesus was slaughtered for your freedom.
How can you go through life not giving your allegiance to Him?
That’s why I converted to Christianity from atheism. I became convinced that the Bible records history, not just a nice story, but true events. Events attested to by eyewitnesses. God came to earth and died for my sins, as my Passover lamb, and what? I was going to go through life not honoring Him? Not thanking Him? Not listening to Him? After all He did for me?
I couldn’t live a life of blatant ungratefulness.
Can you?

I was honored to preach a couple times, touching on these passages, in the last year – and now I wonder whether I'll ever preach about *anything else* but the Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world, anytime I can.
